About Our B&B near Kansas City

We are Karl and Rebecca Darley, your onsite innkeepers, and we welcome you to Walnut Waters Bed & Breakfast.  Karl is a retired carpenter, and I am a registered nurse. As a carpenter, Karl’s work spanned between framing custom houses to working in the high-rises in Chicago. Karl’s love of woodworking in his shop and woodcarving are his real passion…he loves wood. My nursing career started in the emergency room, and most recently I was the school nurse for K-8th graders…a perfect blend of nursing and mothering. Between us, we have a very large family with seven children and eighteen grandchildren.

Our love for entertaining, good food, nature and meeting new people sparked our long-time dream to own a bed and breakfast. All that we told that we were thinking of embarking on this venture said that they could not think of two people who would be more perfect innkeepers. But truly we are really just down-to-earth people, who would love to share a bit of what makes us happy with others.

Originally from Joliet, Illinois, we had searched all over the country for the perfect place to open our bed and breakfast. After visiting this remarkable location and surrounding area, we knew it was where we wanted to create the perfect getaway experience for you. Our unique estate combines the peaceful serenity of the countryside with the convenience of being close to local attractions such as the Kansas City Wine Trail, Powell Gardens, Whiteman Air Force Base and the many attractions of Kansas City itself. Walnut Waters Bed & Breakfast is a lovely destination for celebrating that special anniversary or a weekend getaways. We have stayed at bed and breakfasts across the nation and have taken the most comforting and enjoyable details from each of them to give you the best accommodations and most relaxing experience possible.

We hope all who visit leave as friends!

Breakfast

Begin your day with the wonderful aroma of a scrumptious home-cooked breakfast. Early risers can help themselves to coffee, tea or hot chocolate at our always-available refreshment bar, then a full breakfast will be served at 8:30. (Let us know in advance if you would prefer an earlier or later meal time and, within reason, we will accommodate your schedule. However, if you need to leave before 7 a.m., breakfast-to-go will be ready and waiting for you.)

Breakfast will typically begin with fruit highlighting the season of the year. Next, you’ll be served a main course; some mornings we’ll have something savory such as Farmhouse Casserole, Eggs Benedict Quiche, Brie & Sausage Brunch Bake, Biscuits & Gravy. Other mornings we’ll have something sweet such as a variety of Specialty Pancakes, Crepes, Waffles & French Toast. Additionally, you’ll likely find some made-from-scratch baked goods on the breakfast table. This might be our guest favorite Honey Granola Tart, Banana Sticky Buns or a variety of Specialty Muffins, Breads and Cinnamon Rolls.

Please let us know at the time of your reservation if you have food allergies or special dietary needs—such as gluten-free, dairy-free, or vegetarian— so we can plan accordingly and serve a meal you can enjoy.
